Hi!
I’ve been focused on one single goal lately.
I’m still working on getting DVD box sets of all my comfort shows.
I still want to find a way to boost my libido.
I haven’t stopped trying to calm my anxieties.
But more than anything, I want to move to a farm.
I love my house - I really do. But I’ve always been torn between living in the city and being out in the country.
And these days, the country’s been winning.
I want nothing more than to live in the middle of nowhere and have a big patch of land that needs to be tended to.
Could be a hobby farm. Could be a homestead. Or it could just be property with way more acres than I can handle.
And I realize that it might really be more than I could handle.
I haven’t exactly had a lot of spunk lately. I’ve been spending more time in bed than I want to. My energy levels are in the negatives.
So maybe I wouldn’t be cut out for the farm life even if I did wind up getting my little country home.
But that’s okay.
Worst case scenario, my husband could do it all.
He likes to keep himself busy, and I’m sure there’d be plenty for him to do.
Plus, then I’d be married to a farmer. And that’d be really hot, if you ask me.
Anyway, for a long time this all felt more like a fantasy than a goal. Something to daydream about but not a thing I could actually achieve.
But today, I’ve got a tiny bit of hope.
Because it felt silly to think I could live on a farm when I couldn’t even grow a single vegetable.
I kept trying, but it was just failure after failure.
There was the patio garden I spent months doting over only to watch everything shrivel up and die.
There was the tiny cucumber patch that gave me exactly one cucumber - and it didn’t even manage to grow to its full size.
And that one year I somehow managed to grow an indoor tomato plant that reached the ceiling - and gave me exactly one tomato.
I tend to give up pretty easily, but not with this. For whatever reason, I kept coming back. I kept buying soil, seeds, and planters. I kept watching tutorials and gardening videos.
I kept the dream alive.
And it finally paid off.
Because I just went out in the backyard to water my little garden patch, and I saw more than a dozen peppers coming in. And so many clusters of tomatoes that I didn’t even bother counting them.
I kept it simple this year. Just two short rows surrounded by an extremely rustic and very DIY waddle fence made from sticks I found on my walks.
And it’s finally happening. I’m growing food.
Not a sad half-cucumber - legit veggies.
That’s what’s keeping me going right now. A basket full of peppers and a bucket of tomatoes.
It’s not much, but it’s a first step.
And before you know it, I’ll be a proper farm girl.
I’ll be growing so much food I have to spend the entire fall canning most of it. I’ll be going out early to feed my chickens. I’ll put on my straw hat and overalls so I can go make the weeds my bitch.
Or I’ll just be watching from the hammock while my husband does all the work.
I’ll reward him with a quickie in the greenhouse or something. It’s fine.
And either way, it’ll make up for all the soil I wasted and the plants I killed getting there.
Love,
Emma ❤
