Feels like yesterday - feels like forever 🖤
Hi!
I started blogging five years ago.
But I only started my blog a while later.
For the first couple of years, I was posting everything to Medium.
It was easy. It was simple. It was quick.
And I didn’t really have anywhere else to put my writing.
I didn’t want to go through the trouble of creating a website. I only had a vague idea of what Wordpress was and I really didn’t care to learn.
Plus, I knew my articles could earn a bit of money on Medium. And that’s a big deal because I had four kids to feed - and still do.
But after a couple of years, I started feeling a bit less comfortable on Medium.
I wrote about sex - that was like, my whole thing. And I wrote about it as explicitly as I wanted to. I wanted to be able to write whatever I felt like writing and not have to worry about it.
I didn’t run Medium, though - and still don’t. I knew it might only be a matter of time before that became a problem.
Because sooner or later, most platforms become sex negative. It starts bit by bit, but they all seem to get there eventually.
My writing never felt safe there.
Like what if they decided to stop allowing articles with “pussy” in the title and then my account gets banned? It’s a very plausible scenario because I happen to love writing about pussy.
Then whoosh - all my posts gone overnight. All because I keep nagging guys to give more pussyjobs.
Plus, I actually value my autonomy a lot. Maybe to an extreme degree. I don’t want to play by some random platform’s rules - I want to make my own.
To do that, I’d need to start my own blog. A place where my writing could be safe and sound. A site where I can write whatever I want and it didn’t matter because I’m the CEO of this one-woman operation.
So, I finally looked into what it takes to start a site.
Okay, so I made Mr. Austin do some of that - but he did it on my behalf so that counts.
And then I had my little spot on the internet - Love, Emma.
Which is good, because I was right about Medium.
They started getting weird about erotica when Joe Biden accidentally laid eyes on a filthy story. And my account got some collateral damage from that.
I don’t write erotic fiction, and to my knowledge the President has never seen one of my articles. But people write to me all the time saying my blog posts made them hard, so maybe the Medium moderators got a little titillated by them too.
That’s when my posts stopped getting promoted.
Then it got worse and worse. Now, my posts aren’t shown to anyone unless they already follow me.
So now Medium is now just this place where I park my articles after I post them on my site. I’ve got 80K followers there and I’m grateful for every single one of them. So, I take the time to make sure they get to see my stuff.
But Love, Emma is my real home.
There were so many stragglers, though. Posts that never made it over. Things I wrote on Medium that never got moved to my site.
I've been meaning to bring them home. Because they still have a place in my heart even though I wrote them so long ago.
And honestly, I’m kind of possessive and protective when it comes to my work. When I make something, it’s mine and I treat it as such. I’m not comfortable leaving them on someone else’s site.
But it’s just so damn tedious.
I kept writing new stuff instead of moving the old ones, because moving them is boring.
I started doing it more this week, though. I put on my softest, comfiest pants and I sat at my desk doing all that dull stuff. And I’m not stopping until everything I ever wrote is right there, safe and sound under my own URL.
And you know, it’s been interesting to think about those older posts again.
I don’t look at them often because they feel like they’re from forever ago. I don’t write the way I used to back then, and I’d like to think I’ve improved since I started.
But at the same time, I like my dirty little articles.
I remember how exciting it was to write some of them.
How giddy I felt when I came up with a fresh idea.
How good it felt to put my personal stories out there instead of keeping them strapped to the bondage chair in my brain.
They’re a bit rough around the edges, but I’m still fond of them.
So, I wanted to share a few of those with you this week. They’re not necessarily the best things I ever wrote, but they mean something to me - and maybe you’ll like them too.
My First Big Success
This post was my first big hit.
It did the kind of numbers I hadn’t even come close to seeing before.
I wrote it so I could give the kind of advice I was always looking for online. But seeing it take off was super encouraging and did a lot to keep me going when things felt tough.
One That’s a Little More Personal
This one felt really personal to me.
I was discovering something big about myself. Not just what turns me on but what I need on a deep, emotional level.
And I was doing it publicly. Which felt hella vulnerable. But if I could help anyone else have the kind of epiphany I did, it would be worth it.
Please Judge This Book by Its Cover
This is an article sharing some of my favorite fingering tips.
It’s not my last fingering article - I’ve covered it again and again because it’s an essential life skill.
But it is the one with my favorite title.
I giggled to myself when I came up with it.
I was really happy that I was posting somewhere that wouldn’t censor it.
It was raunchy and jokey in a way that hits all my pleasure centers at once. I know it’s just a title, but I really genuinely did feel like I was finding my voice with this one.
And hey, the actual advice might make someone squirt. So, it’s not just a pretty face - it’s a post with substance.
Moving articles over has been a tedious process. But taking a little stroll down memory lane has been really nice and pleasant.
I’m never entirely sure who I’m writing for. Like, who actually visits my blog.
Judging by my analytics, it’s a lot of women who want to get better at sucking dick. Which is awesome. Love that for them - hope they master it and feel like real hotties because of it!
If you’re reading this, I suppose that means I’m writing for you. Something about my writing made you decide to subscribe to the newsletter so you could get more of it. And you can’t even begin to imagine how much I appreciate that! 🥰
But from the start, I’ve kind of been writing for myself.
I write because I want to share advice I wish I didn’t have to learn the hard way.
I write because I get angry or annoyed about something and it feels good to vent.
I write because I get excited about great sex toys, fun porn scenes, and steamy TikTok trends and I want to let everyone know so they can enjoy them too.
The way I write has changed. Where I write has, too. But not why I do it.
After five years, I’m still writing for me.
Well, me and all those good girls who want to become blowjob queens.
Love,
Emma ❤
